The actual complete-game, original KTLA TV broadcast of the July 16 Sunday Doubleheader (first game) at County Stadium is now offered for the first time ever on this new 1 hour, 29-minute B & W DVD made directly from the original kinescope! Angel announcers Dick Enberg and Don Wells call the play-by-play action. The opposing pitchers are lefthander Rudy May (2-7) of the Angels, and Jim Colborn (2-0), making his first start for the Brewers since being obtained from the Chicago Cubs in the big Jose Cardenal multi-player deal. Former catching teammates Del Crandall and Del Rice are the opposing managers. It’s a fast-paced pitching duel, with both hurlers tossing complete games! The only run is posted in the third inning, when a Vada Pinson sac fly scores centerfielder Ken Berry from third with what eventually proves to be the winning run in the 1-0 Angel victory!
Even partial-game TV broadcasts from before the days of home VCRs (1975) are very rare. This is the oldest full-game TV broadcast involving either the Angels or Brewers known to exist, and now you can go back a generation in time and watch the action unfold once again at old County Stadium, Milwaukee!
