“THE RACE ON RADIO”

The Voice of Sid Collins
NOW ON AUDIO CD!

The original radio broadcast of the 500 on CD!

For the first time ever, the complete, original radio broadcast of the 1966 500-mile race from Indianapolis is now available on audio Compact Disk from Rare Sportsfilms, Inc! In the days before the race was televised live on network television, racing fans around the world traditionally listened to legendary Sid Collins and his team of track reporters describe the thrills of the 500-mile race on radio as it unfolded at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

In addition to Collins on this 19th annual Indianapolis race radio broadcast, you’ll hear the voices of the 10-man crew describe the action throughout: Mike Ahern (turn one), Howdy Bell (turn two), Doug Zink (backstretch), Ron Carrell (turn three), Jim Shelton (turn four), Chuck Marlowe (north pit area), Luke Walton (center pit area), Lou Palmer (south pit area), former driver Len Sutton (replacing Freddie Agabashian for 1966) and race historian Donald Davidson of USAC.

This huge 5-disk set (almost 5 hours long) covers the entire broadcast from pre-race thru post-race with winner Graham Hill, and is enclosed in a special case. The broadcast was about an hour longer than most other years because of the big smash-up at the start which took out 11 cars and delayed the race by an hour and 18 minutes!

For Indy 500 collectors and racing historians, this CD is a must – almost five hours of historic racing bringing back wonderful memories of “just how it was” in the days before the Indianapolis 500 was shown live on television!
