NEW YORK METS
"Year Of The METS Pitchers"

The 1968 New York Mets promotional film "Year Of The METS Pitchers" is now available for the first time on home video! Narrated by announcers Lindsey Nelson and Bob Murphy, this 26-minute color film shows close-up and action shots of the plays and players of 1968 including Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, Nolan Ryan, Jerry Grote, Cleon Jones, Ron Swoboda, Al Weis, Bud Harrelson, Ed Kranepool, J.C. Martin, Dick Selma and youngsters Mike Jorgensen, Ken Boswell, and Kevin Collins. Throughout the film, emphasis is on the young Mets and fun to be had at new Shea Stadium. Scenes of fans and players at Camera Day, Bat Day, Helmet Day, Fan Appreciation Day, Old Timers Day (Ewell Blackwell, Joe DiMaggio, Duke Snider, Sandy Amoros, and Johnny Podres), and the big promotion of the year, Banner Day, are included along with the annual Father-Son Game on Family Day (Danny Weis, Brent Cardwell, Barry Jackson, and Jeff Grote never made it to the big leagues!) Also covered are scenes of the Welcome Home Dinner, Swoboda and Seaver meeting fans at Red Bank, New Jersey, and Cleon Jones and Tom Seaver at Queens. After Mickey Mantle is presented a family portrait from new Mets Manager Gil Hodges at home plate prior to the annual Yanks-Mets Mayor's Trophy Game, Ron Swoboda's inside-the-park home run gives the Mets a 4-3 victory.

The film begins on Opening Day with a featurette on Mets starting pitcher Jerry Koosman. Jerry talks about his family and the opener in his car on the way to the ballpark. You'll get a peek inside the Mets clubhouse and listen in as Manager Hodges talks with Don Cardwell, Cal Koonce, Jerry Koosman, Tom Seaver, and Jerry Grote about the hitters in the Giants lineup. Cardwell talks about how he tries to pitch to Willie McCovey. Koosman, rookie Jim McAndrew, and Tom Seaver tell Coach Rube Walker how they plan to pitch to the Giant slugger. The Giants have the bases loaded and nobody out in the top of the first inning with Willie Mays at bat! Koosman explains how he felt about this particular pitching situation. Cleon Jones' Opening Day homer and great catch helps the Mets to a 3-0 opening day shutout over San Francisco.

On this tape you'll hear Jerry Grote speak about his improved hitting and Cleon Jones talk about stealing bases. Also included on this tape are a few scenes of the 1968 All Star Game at the Astrodome, including Harmon Killebrew's injury at first base, and Seaver's 2-inning stint in which he strikes out Carl Yastrzemski, Joe Azcue, Boog Powell, Mickey Mantle, and Rick Monday. Jerry Koosman is called in to get the final out and strikes out Yaz to end the game! At the end of the film, Manager Gil Hodges shares his enthusiasm for the promising 1969 season ahead, however little did he know that in 12 months the young Mets would be the World Champions of baseball!

This film footage has never been offered for sale before, but now you can own your own color copy of this nostalgic 26-minute video for only $29.95 plus $5.00 shipping! (Illinois residents must add $2.00 sales tax.) Your order will be delivered by priority mail in one week!
