"1957 RED SOX HIGHLIGHTS NOW AVAILABLE!" The 1957 Boston Red Sox highlight film, "Play Ball With The Red Sox", plus a bonus piece in black & white on All-Star third baseman Frank Malzone demonstrating batting and fielding in Spring Training, 1962, is now available on videotape! This 1957 film was the fourth annual movie made by the team (we also have the 1954, 1955 & 1956 Red Sox tapes available), and was shot in Eastmancolor, rather than I.B. technicolor. This tape was made from the original 16mm print and reproduced exactly as it appeared, with the original narration by long-time radio voice of the Red Sox Curt Gowdy.
See Fenway Park as it looked in 1957 and both close-up and action scenes of the plays and players of 1957, including Ted Williams, Jimmy Piersall, Jackie Jensen, Dick Gernert, Willard Nixon, Frank Sullivan, Tom Brewer, manager Pinky Higgins, Gene Mauch and outstanding rookie Frank Malzone.
The tape covers the trip home from Spring Training as the Red Sox initiate big league baseball at Seals Stadium, new home of the San Francisco Giants. Shown is the excitement and color of Opening Day and other special events on the 1957 Red Sox calendar. Watch the visiting teams and their stars play in Boston, including the White Sox with Billy Pierce, Minnie Minoso, and Larry Doby, the Indians with Early Wynn, the Athletics and the Tigers. Spotlighted also is the Red Sox-Yankee rivalry, with great shots of Yogi Berra, Casey Stengel, Mickey Mantle, Bob Turley and Art Ditmar. A special segment shows young Frank Malzone with his family at the seashore and emphasis on the outstanding year of Ted Williams, during which he became the oldest player to ever win the batting championship. Ted hit .388 in '57 at the age of 39!
