THE MILWAUKEE BRAVES
"NOW ON COLOR VIDEO!"
The 1954 Milwaukee Braves highlight film, "Home Of The Braves" is now available on videotape! Made from the original I.B. Technicolor 16mm print for outstanding reproduction color and quality, the tape follows the team through the entire season from spring training at Braves Field, Bradenton, Florida to closing day at County Stadium. See manager Charlie Grimm and coaches Johnny Cooney, Bucky Walters, Bob Keely and Paul Waner put the players thru spring drills. There's the excitement of Opening Day as Joe Adcock Blasts a three-run homer off the Cardinals' Gerry Staley and the Braves win 7-6 in extra innings. Narrated by long-time Milwaukee announcer Earl Gillespie, the tape also shows all the players: Billy Bruton, Bobby Thomson, Andy Pafko, Jim Wilson, Warren Spahn, Gene Conley, Dave Jolly, Del Crandall, Sammy Calderone, keystone combo Danny O'Connell and Johnny Logan and young rookie Hank Aaron wearing his first Braves uniform (#5)! You'll also get a behind-the-scenes look at the front office, including owner Lou Perini, traveling secretary Duffy Lewis, G.M. John Quinn, Don Davidson, John Mullen and Roland Hemond, as well as a look into the clubhouse at Dr. Lacks administering Eddie Mathews and Lou Burdette, clubhouse man Joe Taylor hanging the old tomahawk uniforms, and Adcock, O'Connell and Bruton autographing baseballs.
The video will take you on the road around the league by plane and train, with beautiful COLOR shots of every ballpark in the National League, all of which (except Wrigley Field) are now long gone. Also shown throughout the tape are shots of opposing players such as Willie Mays, Hank Thompson, Johnny Antonelli, Leo Durocher, Monte Irvin, Duke Snider, Gil Hodges, Carl Furillo, Ted Kluszewski, etc. Game incidents such as Adcock's serious beaning in Brooklyn and Grimm's ejection at Crosley Field are covered. Eddie Mathews' 40th homer of the year which gives Lou Burdette a 4-hit shutout win over the Cardinals in the final homestand of the year nails down a third-place finish for the team to conclude the tape.
