New shots of Ruth and Gehrig, brief scenes of action in Baker Bowl, Philadelphia and old League Park, Cleveland, plus scenes of the infamous 1919 World Series make this tape a smorgasbord of rare shots for baseball fans and historians! Some (but not all) of the 1919 W.S. segment was used in Ken Burns' recent TV epic "Baseball", but all other material has not been seen in more than 40 years, and has never been available on video before! Here's exactly what is shown on this fabulous new offering!

Historic Opening Days - The 1913 opener at Ebbets Field (first year of the new ballpark), with Brooklyn Borough President Speers throwing out the first ball. Managers John McGraw and "Uncle Robbie" shake hands before the 1922 opener at the Polo Grounds, Giants vs. Dodgers. Shown are Giants starter Art Nehf and Dodger lefty Dutch Ruether. In 1924 (Dodgers vs. Phils), broadcaster Graham McNamee is shown airing first opener carried on radio! In 1928 at Ebbets Field it's the Phils and Dodgers, Jesse Petty vs. Dazzy Vance. Baker Bowl hosts 1926 opener between Phils and Braves. Manager Dave Bancroft & Art Fletcher shown before game. Finally, another opener at Baker Bowl, Dodgers vs. Phillies with nice game-action shots in the old ballpark!

1919 World Series, Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago "Black Sox" - Game #1 at Redland Field and Game #3 at Comiskey Park. Shown are managers Kid Gleason and Pat Moran plus stars Eddie Collins, Heinie Groh and "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. Also, Reds Ivy Wingo, Edd Roush and first game starting pitchers Ed Cicotte and Dutch Ruether. Game #1 action shows Ruether's triple and Morrie Rath's RBI single off Cicotte. At Chicago, Game #3 starters Dickie Kerr and the Reds' Ray Fisher are shown warming up.

1926 Spring Training - At Tampa, Florida, Senators get ready with Walter Johnson, Stan Coveleski and "Bullet" Joe Bush. Also Nick Altrock, "Boy Manager" Bucky Harris and Clark Griffith of the defending A.L. Champions. At Lakeland, Cleveland Indians (manager Tris Speaker, Joe Shaute, George Uhle plus catchers Frank McCrea and Luke Sewell). At Tarpon Springs, manager George Sisler and coach Jimmy Austin are shown with their St. Louis Browns. Pitchers Joe Giard, Tom Zachary, Charlie Robertson and Elam Vangilder all shown. Then, Yankees at St. Pete: Waite Hoyt, Sam Jones, Bob Shawkey, Tony Lazzeri, Nick Cullop and Babe Ruth.

Knute Rockne of Notre Dame - The immortal coach speaks to players and leads them in workouts! Notre Dame Stadium dedication game, 1930 vs. Navy, won by Irish 26-2.

1930-1932 Philadelphia A's - Starting staff all shown in spring training sometime between 1930 and 1932. Ed Rommel, Roy Mahaffey, Rube Walberg and Lefty Grove.

Spotlight on Chuck Klein - Swing, stance and grip. Great shots of Klein batting and fielding in old Crosley Field!

1937 All-Star Game at Griffith Stadium - Starting pitchers Gomez and Dean, plus Hubbell, Dick Bartell, Billy Herman, Gabby Hartnett, Joe Cronin, Charlie Gehringer, Frank Demaree and Joe Medwick. Game action shows Lou Gehrig's homer with DiMaggio on base off Dizzy Dean, and Red Rolfe's triple off Carl Hubbell.

May 24, 1935 - Reds and Phils at Crosley Field - Historic first night game in modern M.L. history! G.M. Larry McPhail and Frank Lane on roof of park with the new lights. Managers Chuck Dressen and Jimmie Wilson at home plate before game with Reds SS Billy Myers, plus highlights of game, as Reds come from behind and beat Phils 2-1 before 20,422!

Opening Day, 1937 - Cardinals at Cincinnati for traditional season lidlifter! Findlay Market presentation at home plate, plus starting batteries: Peaches Davis & Ernie Lombardi for Reds and Brusie Ogrodowski & Dizzy Dean for Redbirds. Managers Dressen and Frankie Frisch. Cards spoil Reds Opener, knocking off Rhinelanders 2-0 in 10 innings!

1938 All-Star Game at Crosley Field - Great close-ups of Joe DiMaggio and Joe Medwick, who drives in first N.L. run. Down 4-0 in the ninth, A.L. American League scores only run on DiMaggio's single and Cronin's RBI double.
